Days after Husqvarna announced updates to its dual-sport lineup, KTM is following suit unveiling a few changes for the 2022 EXC range. After progressive steps with chassis and engine development in the last three years, the big news for the latest generation dual sport models is a new suspension package.

KTM has worked with WP suspension to update the production settings of the WP XPLOR forks and shock for a firmer and sportier feel. The change also includes new hardware for improved damping, heightened grip and better all-round performance. The XPLOR forks come with reduced friction thanks to updated outer tubes, a polished spring for less pollution of the oil and a reworked upper cartridge screw connection to enhance rebound damping. The PDS shock now boasts a new O-ring that is less prone to deformation, wear and fading, while new settings offer better bottoming out resistance.

The dual-sport KTM EXC-F models are known for being dependable, accessible and thrilling fuel-injected machines. Occupying the spotlight is the popular KTM 500 EXC-F dual-sport with its  excellent power-to-weight ratio, while the KTM 350 EXC-F has become a class-leading dual-sport model due to its 250-like agility and 450-like power. Since its debut in 2012, the 350 EXC-F has gained significantly in performance and torque, as well as handling and agility.

KTM's READY TO RACE mantra guides the development of its offroad machines, and the endeavors of racers like Manuel Lettenbichler and Josep Garcia help sculpt the machines that make it into the hands of riders around the world. For 2022, KTM has emphasized this connection with competition even further with new graphics incorporating blue colors and a blue seat, both styled after the KTM Factory equipment.

2022 KTM 500 EXC-F & 350 EXC-F Highlights

  • UPDATED WP XPLOR forks with sportier suspension settings feature a new oil bypass in the outer fork tubes for reduced friction, a new compression cartridge with one 2 mm hole instead of four 6 mm holes for added rebound damping and new polished springs to ensure clean fork fluid.
  • UPDATED WP XPLOR rear shock with PDS (Progressive Damping System) technology features new settings to match fork performance and a new conical bushing between the pistons in the rear shock absorber to improve bottoming reserves while a new softer main shock O-ring reduces fading.
  • NEW graphics incorporating blue colors and a blue seat inspired by the Factory bikes.
  • High-tech, lightweight chrome-moly steel frame with carefully calculated flex parameters provides a great blend of comfort, stability and precision.
  • Single-piece cast aluminum swingarm is manufactured using a gravity die-cast production process, offering exceptional strength at the lowest possible weight.
  • Light engine cases with a centralized shaft configuration move the crankshaft closer to the bike's center of gravity for light handling and quick responsiveness.
  • Reinforced clutch cover for improved resistance against impacts in rocky terrain.
  • 6-speed wide ratio transmission is perfectly suited for road and offroad duty.

The 2022 KTM EXC models will be available in authorized KTM dealers starting this month. MSRP for the 500 EXC-F and 350 EXC-F is $11,799 and $11,399 respectively, up $200 from last year's models.
